The Training and Capacity-Building Unit

The Training and Capacity-Building Unit at the Adaleh Center for Human Rights Studies is a specialized unit focused on training, awareness, and education in the field of human rights. It aims to promote a culture of human rights across all segments of Jordanian society by providing knowledge, skills, guidance, and developing attitudes that balance rights and responsibilities while advocating for their protection.

The Overall Objective of the Unit

This is achieved through the use of scientific methodologies and approaches to human rights education in both formal and non-formal settings.

Specific Objectives

The Training and Capacity-Building Unit aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Promote the Adaleh Center’s mission of advancing human rights at the national level.
  • Consolidate the principles of human rights in both thought and practice, ensuring non-discrimination among citizens.
  • Develop a framework of values and skills to adopt and advocate for human rights.
  • Support the efforts of non-governmental organizations working in the fields of human rights and democracy.
  • Equip human rights practitioners nationwide with tools, guidance, and skills enhancement.
  • Empower individuals and groups to recognize their deprived rights, understand the barriers preventing access, and learn about available national grievance mechanisms.

Fieldes of work

Primary Education:
The Unit organizes training programs to raise children’s awareness of their basic rights and to strengthen the values and skills that help protect them.
Secondary and Higher Education:
The Unit conducts training programs for school and university students to educate them about human rights and to develop their capacity to advocate for them.
Civil Society:
The Unit provides training programs for non-governmental organizations working in human rights, equipping them to monitor and follow up on human rights violations and to offer legal assistance and support to victims.
Government Institutions:
The Unit organizes training programs for government employees to raise awareness about the importance of human rights and how to promote them in policies and practices, including women’s rights and UN Security Council Resolution 1325.
Security, Women, and Peace:
The Unit implements training programs, workshops, and discussion sessions to enhance the status of women and ensure their participation in implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security, both in Jordan and across the Arab world.

The Training Unit implements a range of measures to achieve its objectives, including:

  • Assessing and identifying the training needs of the target groups served by the Center.
  • Developing annual and quarterly plans to meet the training, educational, and awareness needs of the Center’s target groups.
  • Communicating and coordinating with relevant entities involved in developing and enhancing the skills of human rights practitioners.
  • Reviewing mechanisms and methodologies for integrating human rights concepts into educational curricula.
  • Studying training-related challenges and proposing suitable solutions to overcome them.
  • Providing the Center with the necessary curricula, teaching materials, and educational and training technologies.
  • Classifying and updating data and information related to the Unit’s activities.
  • Designing, developing, and implementing the required training, awareness, and educational programs.
  • Preparing training manuals and tools for the educational, awareness, and training programs organized by the Center.
  • Keeping up to date with the latest developments in teacher and trainer preparation and training.
  • Exchanging information and experiences related to training, education, and awareness with non-governmental organizations.
  • Producing visual and audio media materials to promote the objectives the Center seeks to achieve.
